Geophysical Surveys

Geophysical surveys are considered an efficient, cost-effective process for identifying potential sub-surface archaeology without the use of invasive methods such as test trenching or excavation.

This is accomplished by investigating the physical properties of the soil and geology, then identifying the contrast between the physical properties of potential archaeological features and those of the surrounding soil. The raw data collected from the survey can then be manipulated to produce a greyscale image of the survey area, enabling an examination of potential sub-surface archaeological remains.

Neo Environmental can advise clients on the best approach for archaeology, which will be dependent on the characteristics of the particular project and development stage. If you have concerns that there could be a potential archaeological issue, then contact us for some free initial advice and we can try and devise an agreeable strategy.

Our archaeological knowledge and experience of various desk and field based assessments will allow us to guide you through the whole process. We endeavour to find the quickest and most cost-effective solution to address archaeological constraints.

We offer a number of proven techniques including:

  • Magnetometry
  • Resistivity
  • Electro Magnetic Surveys
  • Ground penetrating radar (GPR)
  • Magnetic Susceptibility Surveys
  • Metal detection
