Meet The New Staff

We’ve had a host of new staff joining our offices throughout the UK. With introductions via Zoom happening between ourselves we thought we would take this opportunity to introduce them to all of you.

Helena McDonnell
Helena joins the team as a Principal Planning Consultant and has a keen interest in residential, commercial and renewable energy projects. Having studied at Queen’s University Belfast, Helena graduated with a BSc Honours degree in Environmental Planning and an MSc in Urban and Rural Design in 2012. Prior to joining Neo Environmental, Helena spent 6 years’ with Gravis Planning in Belfast, and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. Helena has experience in managing the various elements of projects including pre-applications, submissions, Planning reports, EIAs and Environmental Reports and consultations. Being from the Glens of Antrim, Helena is looking forward to working from the Ballymena office (post Covid-19!). Since joining the team in June, Helena has been working on various large-scale developments across Ireland and the UK. Her passion outside of work is her two young sons, who keep her busy!

Daniel Flenley
Daniel is an experienced ecologist with 13 years of experience in ecological surveys and report writing. Daniel has experience in undertaking and managing a range of surveys and assessments, including Ecological Impacts Assessments, extended phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species surveys, for around 200 projects. These include a variety of development types such as energy, commercial, residential and transport infrastructure. He joins Neo as a Senior Ecologist with significant experience in the consultancy sector, having previously worked for Ecology Solutions, Butterfly Conservation and James Blake Associates.
A keen birdwatcher, Daniel has seen over 530 bird species in the wild on six continents. His other specialisms include bats, butterflies/moths and dragonflies. At the weekend he can be found at church and playing football, climbing or enjoying music. He may also be the only diabetic to have won a national chocolate tasting contest.

Nicole Beckett
Nicole is one of Neo’s Senior Environmental Planning Consultants. She has undertaken work for a portfolio of renewable energy projects across the UK and has worked on a range of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and planning applications for major developments including solar projects and commercial projects such as golf courses.
Before joining Neo Environmental, Nicole worked as an Environmental and Geo–Environmental consultant for REC Ltd and STRI Group. Within the environmental consultancies she conducted large scale EIAs, screening reports, various site investigations, the production of Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and construction activities (Clerk of Works) for residential, commercial and mixed-use developments.
She is an active member of IEMA and outside of work enjoys long hikes in the Lake District, loves going to the Gym and loves Harry Styles even more.

Graham Cameron
Graham is an experienced landscape architect and Associate Member of the Landscape Institute (LI) with over five years post qualification experience specialising in landscape and visual impact assessment, appraisal, and landscape planning projects. He I currently on his pathway to full Chartership, which he hopes to complete shortly.
Graham has worked on a range of projects including Landscape, Visual and Cumulative Impact Assessment, Local Landscape Designation Reviews, and Green Belt Assessments. Graham has also worked on a number of development projects including wind farms, linear infrastructure, large infrastructure, mining, and commercial and residential projects in the UK. Graham has joined Neo Environmental from Land Use Consultants. Prior to becoming a landscape architect, Graham has over ten years’ successful experience in horticulture, landscape design, build, maintenance and management. Outside of work Graham enjoys time with family, films and walking.

Colleen Patterson:
Colleen joins the Neo team as an Environmental Planning consultant, having completed her graduate work experience with the company in 2019. Colleen has a Degree in Geography and a Masters in Planning and Development from Queens University in Belfast. Having done a dissertation researching solar projects in Northern Ireland, she has gained a significant interest in planning for renewable energy projects! Colleen has been working on a number of solar and battery storage projects in the Republic of Ireland while at Neo Environmental.
Colleen is also a keen sports enthusiast and has represented Antrim at all grades in Camogie, as well as playing Gaelic football for her local club.

Dara Dunlop
Dara is the longest serving member of our new recruits having joined the Neo team as an Ecologist last year. Having graduated at the University of Birmingham in which Dara did research in New Zealand for a year as part of her degree, she went on to work in Costa Rica. After completing her travels Dara then worked as an ecologist in London with Land Use Consultants before returning home to Northern Ireland and Joining the Neo team. Dara is a Qualifying Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and has circa 3 years’ experience in the ecology sector. She has experience in undertaking a range of protected species surveys and extended phase 1 habitat surveys for industrial schemes, and land management of designated sites. Dara has produced and co-authored a number of reports including Ecological Impact Assessments and Protected Species Reports for various developments
Dara also volunteers in wildlife and ecology projects and is a keen traveller in her free time.

Brogan Loughlin
Brogan, who joined the company in May, is an ecologist with over two years’ experience and has worked as a Wildlife Conservation Officer with World of Owls and a Ranger Assistant with the National Trust. She has a degree in Conservation from John Moore’s University in Liverpool and has a clear passion for wildlife. Brogan is experienced in a wide range of habitats and has a particular interest in wetlands. She has experience in phase 1 and phase 2 surveys as well as bat surveys. Brogan is enjoying undertaking a range of bat surveys and habitat surveys for a number of wind, solar and residential projects for Neo Environmental across Ireland.

Scott Griffin
Scott joined Neo as our office administrator and book keeper and he is the pleasant voice you generally hear if you call the Neo office. Co-ordinating flights, accommodation, exhibitions, diaries, travel plans, accounts and keeping on top of invoices he is an administrative genius – if we do say so ourselves. As an enthusiastic, young member of the Neo team, Scott has already been involved in helping with some baseline assessments for projects and enjoys working with various computer program packages.
Outside of work, Scott is happy in the outdoors and is a keen rock climber and also co-runs a scout section specifically for children with additional needs.
